A: Vision Module

The Vision Module is a further development of a machine vision system that was designed by the authors as part of earlier grants. So far, a laboratory conveyor has been built that allows to inspect the condition of conveyor belts in motion. The conveyor is equipped with a machine vision device that allows to record digital images of cover damage for belts up to 400 mm wide and with algorithms that enable damage identification and analysis. The device is the result of research that led to filing four patent applications. Also, the system was scaled up to comply with the dimensions of real transportation machines (belt width up to 2250-2400 mm) and software was created that integrates the collected data on belt damage with the information from other sources, including newly designed mechatronic sensors, which prevent catastrophic failures (e.g. belt cuts and edge rupture).
